The Blue Butterfly (SPOILERS)

Post-viewing thoughts that are totally organised and unstructured. My English teacher would be disappointed, but I digress. Read for my thoughts on the AWESOMENESS THAT WAS THIS EPISODE: In which I fangirl and discuss the hotness of Stana’s legs.

Firstly, AMAZING EPISODE. LOVED IT. Although I’ll admit, although I liked where the real-life investigation went, the actual case kind of bored me - mostly because I wanted to know more about Joe and Vera.

One thing that I thought was great (before I divulge into fangirling with a tiny sprinkling of actual serious thoughts) was the differences between the Joe and Vera and Castle and Beckett relationships. Joe and Vera were very open and knew that their love was all that matters - when Vera discovered there was a secret, Joe revealed it instantly and there was no bad blood about it. Castle and Beckett can definitely learn from the example.

I loved the Joe and Vera story! It was amazingly awesome and I love how the writers created something that was basically everything Castle loves in a story, even a true one. Also, when the old Joe and Vera first appeared on screen (before we knew it was them) I was totally like “I bet that’s them, and they faked their deaths”.

DID I CALL IT OR WHAT?

Also I loved the old couple’s interactions, TOTALLY ADORABLE, and I think it’s good for Beckett to see that even couples that have obstacles to get over in the beginning can make it work and last for a long time - for always.

And I’ll admit that I wanted Castle to go back to Joe and Vera afterwards and ask for the Blue Butterfly so he could give it to Beckett.

My reaction was identical to Castle’s when Beckett showed him the fake Blue Butterfly. I was like “It’s beautiful” - and I’m not really much of a jewelry person - and then when Beckett said it was costume jewelry I was semi-heart broken.

Back to the 40s component. At the beginning I was super weirded out by all the characters’ interactions, and it made me flinch to see Espo and Ryan beating up Castle (side-note - the Castle/Ryan boyo thing was BEYOND HYSTERICAL) and it was SO WEIRD to see Castle talking to Alexis in a non-fatherly-caring way. But I loved that Lanie was singing at the beginning, and when she kissed Castle I loved loved LOVED that Espo’s character acted so pissed. It made me laugh and smile tenderly at the same time.

For the rest of the flashbacks I was able to ignore the characters’ real identities, although I got pretty upset when “Alexis” was killed - especially because it was Castle imagining her so in a way he just imagined his daughter being shot, which would basically tear him apart in real life.

Also, everyone looked super incredible in their aliases, although “Martha” with blonde hair looked so weird to me. Castle looked amazingly hot and OHMYGOD BECKETT. GET SEXIER WHY DON’T YOU. That dress at the end, with the slit all the way up to her thigh. I was speechless. But that didn’t stop me imagining what Castle’s reaction would be if Beckett wore that in real life.

Speaking of real life, I loved how involved Beckett got in the story. And I loved that they didn’t fill Rysposito in - like it was something just for the two of them.

Also, the transitions in this episode were incredible. Most memorable ones were definitely the hand pouring the drink with Castle/Joe, from Castle and Beckett on the couch to Joe and Vera in front of the car, and between the elevator and the kiss. Which reminds me, I was kind of perched on the edge of my seat because I really wanted to hear Castle say “I love you” to a conscious Beckett (even in his imagination), but then he said “Always” and I had to stand up and do a little happy dance.

I’ll stop before this goes on too long (“Before?” the unstoppable maniac asks herself) and quickly give my thoughts on the Pandora preview.

OHGODOHGODOHGODOHGOD THIS IS JUST AS BAD AS THE COPS AND ROBBERS PROMO ALTHOUGH PROBABLY NOT QUITE AS BAD BECAUSE WE COULDN’T SEE THE HEARTBROKEN LOOK ON BECKETT’S FACE BUT OHGODOHGOD THE EPISODE AND IT’S A TWO PARTER SO PROBABLY CASTLE’S LIFE WILL BE IN THE BALANCE WHEN THE EPISODE ENDS AND WE’LL BE WAITING A WHOLE FREAKING WEEK TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS AND I WILL JUST DIE AND OHGODOHGOD.

But, I am hoping for Beckett Jealousy and Castle Excitement Over Working with the CIA. Also, WHAT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED? WHAT? AND WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? A CATASTROPHIC EVENT.

Last time we got a Caskett hug. This time I want a kiss, or at the very least, CPR (HOW FREAKING HILARIOUS WOULD THAT BE - assuming their lives aren’t in peril danger at the time - IF BECKETT HAS TO GIVE CASTLE MOUTH-TO-MOUTH AND THINK OF THE RYSPOSITO TEASING *drools*

But anyway. I will not survive the week. Thank you and good night.
